How is counselling different to talki

Talking to a good friend about what is going on in your life can be really helpful. They already know you and can offer you support and some helpful insights. However, you may feel there are things you can’t talk about with your friend or you might be worried that your friendship is becoming all about you and one sided. A counsellor is a trained mental health professional who has undergone extensive training in order to be able to help you navigate difficult life circumstances. Counsellors are also trained to help you to assess how you are feeling and explore your options in an effective and efficient way. Counselling is a unique relationship in that, unlike a good friendship, your counsellor is there just for you. You don’t have to feel bad about doing all the talking or embarrassed about anything you might say, your counsellor is used to talking about difficult and embarrassing topics. Counselling is also confidential so everything you say in a counselling session will be keep in confidence.
